Destination Sydney Surrounds North (DSSN) is one of six Destination Networks formed as a result of the review by Destination NSW into the effectiveness and structure of regional tourism industry organisations. Destination Networks are ‘administration zones’ responsible for delivering on the NSW Government objective to double the Visitor Economy by 2020. The DSSN zone encompasses 13 local government areas being: Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Cessnock, Dungog, Hawkesbury, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Muswellbrook, Newcastle, Penrith, Port Stephens, Singleton and Upper Hunter. In 2017 the DSSN region attracted $4.07 billion in tourism expenditure – a growth of 4.2% average growth over the past ten years.
DSSN has a Board comprising an independent Chair appointed by Destination NSW and five skills-based Directors. Full time staff consists of a General Manager, Industry Development Manager and an Executive Assistant. In addition, DSSN is supported by a dedicated Regional Tourism Development Manager at Destination NSW.
