The Destination Sydney Surrounds North Destination Management Plan exists to guide industry on priorities, strategies and required actions that will drive the growth of the Visitor Economy at a regional level. The plan provides the foundations on which future local plans can be built and updated to provide a common vision. This document is an adaptable plan that will be reviewed annually by DSSN in consultation with Destination NSW and industry stakeholders. NSW is the number one state in Australia for tourism. Fifty one percent of the 7.6 million international visitors to Australia visit NSW. International tourism to NSW was worth over $9.5 billion in 2016 and the spend was growing about five times faster than the domestic market. Inbound tourism is big business and vital to the visitor economy. Before you make the decision to enter into the inbound markets, you need to understand how inbound tourism works, know who is visiting Australia and ensure that your product is ‘export ready’.
The State Government has established a Regional Conferencing Unit within the Government’s tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW and have resourced the unit appropriately to deliver growth strategies and promotional plans to sell the benefits of meeting in Australia’s most geographically diverse State. This Toolkit has been especially designed for rural and regional NSW suppliers or those considering entering the business events arena to assist them in growing their business and achieving even greater success.
Destination NSW has established strong partnerships within the national and global tourism and events industries to achieve our mission to double overnight visitor expenditure by 2020 and maximise the benefits of the visitor economy for NSW. These partnerships are essential to maintaining our State's prized position as Australia's number-one visitor destination and home to the most compelling major events calendar in our nation. This guide showcases a range of partner opportunities, from cooperative marketing activities to social media and webinars.
Stream 1: Refresh and Renew Fund: offering $10,000 grants to regional tourism operators to update their product or experience. Stream 2: Experience Enhancement Fund: provides between $50,000 and $150,000 in matched funding to assist operators upgrade existing accommodation to improve their star rating, upgrade business and leisure event venues and facilities, repurpose existing infrastructure to provide new facilities or experiences not currently available within the destination, or to create new tourism attractions or experiences.
The Regional Business Event Development Fund grants of up to $30,000 to create, attract and support business events for regional NSW, and to motivate business event owners to incorporate regional NSW in their plans.
Destination NSW delivers the NSW First program to assist tourism businesses around the State to develop, promote and sell their tourism products. It includes face to face workshops and online webcasts that offer ‘how-to’ insights on a range of topics for the tourism industry, with events to be added to the calendar throughout the year. The Destination NSW Content Library houses a collection of images, videos and editorial content showcasing destinations and experiences across Sydney and all regions of New South Wales.
The Content Library provides the tourism industry, travel media, government agencies and select commercial partners with a range of assets that can be used to promote New South Wales as a travel destination.
